Job Opening: Postdoctoral Fellow – Synthetic Carbohydrate Chemistry

 

 

The Callmann Group in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin has a postdoctoral position available in the area of carbohydrate synthesis and chemical glycobiology to start ASAP. We are seeking a highly motivated and independent scientist with a strong background in organic synthesis to join our multidisciplinary research team. Oligosaccharide synthesis experience is highly desired. The postdoc will develop carbohydrate-polymer conjugates (CPCs) for disease detection and therapy and serve as a mentor to junior graduate students.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

The candidate should have completed a Ph.D. within the last three years or soon to be completed in chemistry, chemical biology, chemical/biological engineering, or a related discipline. The position requires skills in:

• Designing and conducting multi-step organic syntheses

• Isolating and purifying products using chromatographic separation techniques

• Structure determination using NMR and MS

• Direct experience with oligosaccharide synthesis and developing new methods for chemical glycosylation is highly desired

• Training in solid-phase organic synthesis a plus

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Strong skills in collaboration and ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment
